Happy Halloween!

I love halloween. I love the candy, the smell of candles burning inside of jack-o-lanterns, the toasting pumpkins seeds and costumes. I love to dress up. This year, for the second year in a row I am going to be dressing up as Wednesday Addams.

Halloween is also the perfect time to watch scary movies.

These days it seems that most scary movie aficionados seem to prefer the violent slasher flicks. Personally, I am not big on blood and gore, nor do I have much interest in zombies and any other blood thirsty monsters. I like a good ghost story. Throw in a séance, witchcraft or some sort of invisible supernatural entity, and that is totally my bag, baby.

Here are my top 10 favourite scary movies:

1. The Changeling
Not to to be confused with the new movie with Angelina Jolie, this movie was made in the late 70s, and it’s not only a good scary movie but just a good movie in general. It has everything a scary movie should have, a beautiful old haunted house, a creepy musical score and an awesome séance scene.

2. The Shining
Is it just me, or does Jack Nicholson play crazy a little too well in this movie?

3. Poltergeist
I have two words to sum up this film. Toy. Clown.

4. Watcher in the Woods
This was an Disney movie from the 80s, yet is is has always been creepy enough to give me a mild case of the heebie jeebies.

5. The Others
This movie wasn’t really scary, just beautifully eerie with a predictable, yet interesting plot twist.

6. The Ring
If you have seen this movie, I wouldn’t even believe you if you told me you didn’t jump when your phone rang for the first time when you came home from the theatre.

7. Blair Witch Project
Changed camping forever.

8. Rosemary’s Baby
As if expectant mothers don’t have enough to worry about. It also should be noted, the book is actually scarier than the movie.

9. Carrie
This movie was both heartbreaking and scary, with a valuable lesson to be learned. Don’t pick on the weird girl.

10. Children of the Corn
Creepy, Satan worshiping cult of children. It wasn’t the greatest movie, but it had a enough moments that made me jump and cringe to make my favourites list.
