The real reason for my silence on this blog from August until recently is that I’ve been asleep. I mean that quite literally. It started late June and by mid-summer I was snoozing about 12 hours a day. If you consider that most days I’m committed to working for 8 hours, then I have a round trip commute that takes about 45 minutes, that left very little time for anything else.
Apparently, gestating a small person is tiring work.
I am due in March. Also, we just found out last week, it looks like a girl.
We couldn’t be more excited.
I honestly didn’t think I had a preference when it came to gender. To anyone who’d asked what we were hoping for, I’d given them the standard cliché answer that we didn’t care either way, as long as it’s healthy. That’s obviously true, but when the ultrasound technician wrote the words girlie bits on the screen (she had laryngitis, so my scan was subtitled) I let out a VERY enthusiastic YAY! I was actually taken aback by my own reaction. Of course, I have no way of knowing what my response would have been had it been a boy, but we’re just so happy we know now. The suspense had been driving me mad.
Niblet is what we’re calling her for now, and I’m slowly trying to get my mess of a sewing room cleared out so we can turn it into a bedroom. While I work away at that, we’ve been picking out some of the basic furnishings we’ll need.
After some research, I’ve decided on a rocker/recliner, rather than the typical glider/ottoman combination. This Jenny Lind crib is a must too. Of course, we will need some pattern in this room also, but this is a good start.
In the meantime, I still have a lot of cleaning and sorting though my mess to do. First though, I’m going to need a nap.
