Happy Civic Holiday

I love the August Civic Holiday. While I enjoy all holidays, this innocuous day stands out as one of my favourites.

Nobody was exploited, killed, born or resurrected for this holiday to exist, therefore there’s no religious or political affiliation. It’s also entrenched deeply enough in our history that nobody bothers to debate the validity of it’s observation.

This is what my day looked like:

There isn’t an elaborate dinner to cook for the Civic Holiday, nor are there any gifts to buy and wrap. There’s nothing to decorate either. The only thing we need to do in preparation is to NOT set the alarm on Sunday night.

It’s just a day off in the middle of summer.

It’s so simple.

Aww, this is such a great photo! Makes me want to curl up and take a nap. I love your observations about the August long weekend, too. I’ve always liked to think it’s my personal long weekend, as it’s always within spitting distance of my birthday.

    Thanks!

My personal long weekend is Easter. This year my birthday was actually on Good Friday and we were also on vacation which was perfect.
