Last year, in an attempt to rectify a misguided dress purchase, I dyed this white dress, orange (as documented here). I’d been unsure about this bold colour decision though. While it was a lovely shade of orange, it was really, really bright.
A year later, I still hadn’t worn it. Every time I put it on, I couldn’t shake the giant traffic cone feeling. Really, the only accessory I could imagine pairing with this outfit was a 6 foot pole topped with a reversible stop/slow sign.
So, back into the dye bath it went. This time I went with a wine colour. This is not only more subdued but also practical, as red wine is the third most common liquid I spill on myself, coming in behind coffee and hot sauce.
I’m really digging the colour, but I’m not entirely happy about how it turned out overall. This time around, the stitching detail didn’t quite stain evenly and there’s a few light spots (although they’re hardly noticeable). I also overlooked the fact that this dress has a white zipper. In retrospect, that’s probably why I didn’t choose such a dark shade the first time around. Most of the zipper is hidden, but the pull really stands out. Other than painting it somehow, I’m not sure how to hide it.
Considering this dress only cost about $15.00, I’m starting to think this dress has become far more trouble than it’s worth!
