Is it too late to talk about the Oscars?

Since we gave up our cable five years ago, the only thing I really miss on television is the award shows. Even though I rarely see the nominated films, I just love the pageantry. The Academy Awards were my favourite, and even though I didn’t watch it last night, I couldn’t wait to read about it over breakfast this morning.

After checking out the highlights from last night’s show, with the exception of Angelina Jolie’s weird chicken leg, I don’t feel like I missed much. Even the dresses seemed uninspired. I’m also among the few that did not love Rooney Mara’s much discussed Givenchy gown.

So, instead of talking about last nights frocks, I’m going to recap my favourite Oscar dresses of all time.

Gwyneth Paltrow 1999

Not everybody liked this dress, and apparently the haters included her own Mother.

I thought it was lovely.

Bjork 2001

The infamous swan dress.

It was the fashion faux pas of the year, but personally, I really thought she pulled it off.

Michelle Williams 2006

I’ve always thought it was an odd choice of colour, and that’s probably why it’s always stood out to me.

It’s a beautiful dress though, and Michelle Williams looked absolutely stunning in it.

Grace Kelly 1955

I not only love this colour, but the dress actually looks confortable, unlike some of the tight and awkward dresses celebrities often wear these days. I feel like you could stop for all you can eat ribs and a few martinis in this dress and not bust out of it. Of course, the white gloves would have to come off for the rib eatin’ though.

Julia Roberts 2001

Hands down, this Valentino gown is my favourite dress ever. There is not a single thing I don’t love about it.

Seriously. It was perfection.
