I spend a lot of time on the internet looking at pictures of food and collecting recipes for dishes I might make someday. Lately Oatmeal Brulee has been popping up on my radar. Combining one of my breakfast staples with my favourite dessert is pure genius. Yesterday, a lazy holiday morning, seemed like a perfect time to give it a try.
It’s quite simple to make. Just cook 1 cup of oats to package directions. Personally, I use soy milk instead of water with a splash of vanilla for extra flavour and creaminess.
When the oatmeal is cooked, transfer to 2 ramekins, sprinkle with demerara sugar, then caramelize it using a torch. If you don’t have a torch you can also broil for a few minutes for a similar effect.
That’s all it takes for breakfast to go from nutritious and boring to decadent.
